It’s October!
It may well be Halloween at the end of the month, where you get to dress up and gorge yourself on sweets and chocolate but it’s also something else. And in my personal opinion, something far more important. It is ‘Pink October’, dedicated to raising awareness and money through various fundraising themes for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I’d much prefer my money to go to the charities that help women and men deal with this awful disease than to give it to a kid in a plastic mask threatening ‘trick or treat’.
There are so very many people affected each year and we strive to raise funds to research into how we can ‘kick cancer’ – of all kinds.
October is the month where we focus on Breast Cancer and the devastating effects it has on the sufferers, survivors and the families of those involved …I know just how devastating as I am one of those family members in this situation.
We are trying to not only come to terms with the rapid speed (within our Health Trust) from diagnosis to treatment/procedures but to be there for the person in our lives who is both physically and emotionally going through this ordeal. Psychologically it is gruelling for all, but knowing what to do and what to say? How to help? What to help with?…
Where do you begin? A question with many answers that depends on each very different situation.
Last year saw me helpless as one of my best friend’s went through surgical procedures and, thankfully, come out surviving this disease, but not without some reoccurring issues. I just wanted to take it all away, feel the pain for her. Another friend lost a loved one to cancer the same year. It seemed every-where we turned there was some-one we knew or a friend of a friend who was going through this trauma of diagnosis and battle.
And then in July this year we heard that awful line… ‘I’ve been recalled’.
My heart sank. But the hospital consultants and nurses were superb and the process so fast, each week another hospital appointment. I think that’s why we felt it difficult to process our feelings, we just didn’t have chance. Our family member has started Chemotherapy very recently and will continue the treatment for quite some time.
The Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) charity provides free services for women and teenagers suffering from the visible side effects from cancer treatment. We know that we shall see, first-hand, these effects from the treatment and can only imagine the feeling of self-confidence loss for patients, and for women – the feeling that they are losing their femininity.

It’s a gorgeous carnation pink shade and the Bare Minerals write up said that it is also universally flattering. I’ve already got one Moxie lipgloss in ‘Rule Breaker’, which is a nude shade and is really lovely on with the Shea, Avocado and Murumuru butters in, it really does make your lips feel nourished, soft and hydrated.
I had promised myself I would use up all of my (and there’s many!) already open lip colours before buying any more, but with the personal circumstances we are in and so many people I love being affected by this evil disease I had no second thoughts when placing my order.
The lipgloss arrived last night and didn’t disappoint, it’s a beautiful colour and my friend has already remarked on the lovely shade it is. It can be sheer or you can add another layer for a more medium colour. I hope that Bare Minerals release this colour again in the future and can do the same with involving a charity that can benefit for any donation that they are able to give.
